Learning / teaching / training material – Manual /handbook / guidance material
Output Description
The overall objective of O1 is to support the teaching staff of partner universities of how to use and integrate digital manufacturing tools in education (in the field of product development and manufacturing - ProDeM) focusing on the Master’s level. Digital tools are already used to some extent in all HEI-s. The shortcoming being the extent and integration of their utilization/usage. Education has not caught up with the full capabilities offered by those tools. This also means that part of the teaching done is outdated and needs to be replaced by modern technology. The specific aim of this new ProDeM Guide is to enhance the knowledge concerning the implementation of digital manufacturing tools starting from innovation and product development (i.e. via prototype testing) to manufacturing and quality control. So, the new ProDeM Guide includes use implementation of digital manufacturing tools in different phases of a manufacturing cycle:
- Initial development phase (covering courses like product development and design, including some form of initial sketching, brain storming, mind mapping, etc.);
- Computer-aided design phase of the product and computer-aided simulation (CAD/CAE) - some examples of the tools used in this phase are SolidWorks, SolidEdge, NX, Creo, Fusion360, Autodest Inventor;
- Computer-aided manufacuring (CAM) and CNC machining phase. Examples of the tools used in this phase are in principle the same as for the previous phase. This is due the fact that majority of the high-end software packages already include the CAM-module (like the MasterCam, SurfaceCam are couple of examples in addition).
- Quality control, including coordinated measuring and industrial metrology (CMM). In the field of industrial metrology, it has historically developed in a way that there is less unification i.e. it is custom that key manufactures have developed their own systems that might not integrate with others. Couple of examples here are Calypso from ZEISS and PS-DMIS by Hexagon Metrology.
